Fifteen years after the switch was flipped on at 1290 AM, WDEO (“DEO” is Latin for God) in Ann Arbor, MI, Ave Maria Radio is still leading the charge in Catholic Radio.

In 1996, Mother Angelica, the foundress of EWTN, the world’s largest religious network, offered programming to any Catholic radio station. Ave Maria was the first to accept the offer. On Nov. 21st in a hearing before Judge Calvin Osterhaven of Eaton County, Richard Remund, owner of the Womans Choice clinics entered into an agreement with the Michigan Attorney General to dissolve his clinics. Moreover, Remund is forever barred from being part of any incorporation of a Michigan medical facility. DETROIT — From a modest start in 1996, Ave Maria Radio has grown into the largest producer of Catholic radio programming in the United States.

As it celebrates its 15th anniversary, the Ann Arbor Township-based organization’s programs can not only be heard on the two radio stations it operates — WDEO (990 AM) Ypsilanti and WMAX (1440 AM) Saginaw – but nearly 160 other stations across the country carry at least some its shows.
