State Restrictions on Abortion: Where Do They End Up?

  • Description: Should Texas legislators get another bill to ban late-term abortions to the floor of the state Senate, pro-abortion lawmaker Wendy Davis says she will not filibuster the bill a second time. The bill would ban abortions after 20 weeks and hold abortion clinics accountable by making them meet basic health and safety standards that have closed facilities in other states that are unable to comply. The bill also requires all abortion clinics to meet the same health and safety regulations as an ambulatory surgical center, requires a doctor providing abortions to secure admitting privileges at a nearby hospital, and lastly, requires a doctor to personally administer the abortion-inducing drugs to the patient. Given the high publicity of this legislation, we talk to pro-life attorney Clarke Forsythe about what happens to the many state pro-life bills that are hung up in the courts.

An Evangelical View of Immigration Reform

  • Description: As bills for comprehensive immigration reform continues to make its way in different versions on Capitol Hill, Kelly Monroe Kullberg is here to give us an Evangelical view of this legislation. In an open letter to Congress she recently wrote, “The U.S. Senate now has the opportunity to rebuild confidence that citizens have lost concerning the competence of our legislative branch. Please first enforce existing laws, secure our borders and end on-going illegal immigration. This will go a long way towards reversing public cynicism and distrust. Then, with the growing confidence of the American people, Congress and citizens can work together to address the challenges of immigration in the context of our calling to nurture the great story of America’s heritage and future.” ‘She expands on this letter.
