Reclaiming Francis: How the Saint and the Pope are Renewing the Church

  • Description: "As Pope Francis continues to call for the rebuilding of the Church, Msgr. Charles M. Murphy, author of The Spirituality of Fasting and Eucharistic Adoration, offers a timely look at what today's Church can learn from St. Francis of Assisi about evangelization and renewal. When Archbishop Jorge Bergoglio chose the name Francis, a renewed sense of hope and energy swept through the Church. In this timely book, Msgr. Charles M. Murphy examines the correlations between the two Francises and shows why St. Francis is an ideal model for today. Just as in St. Francis's time, today's Church can only be rebuilt and reinforced by a spiritual renewal that comes from within itself, a vision that Pope Francis carries forward in the New Evangelization. Pope Paul VI, the first modern pope to focus on evangelization, once said, "People today listen more to witnesses than to teachers." Pope Francis knows that St. Francis is just such a witness and Murphy enlivens them both for his readers."

    • Msgr. Charles Murphy

Msgr. Murphy is the director of the permanent diaconate for the Diocese of Portland, Maine. Previously he served his diocese as director of education and has pastored four different parishes. Jesus the Bridegroom: The Greatest Love Story Ever Told

  • Description: "In Jesus the Bridegroom, Brant Pitre once again taps into the wells of Jewish Scripture and tradition, and unlocks the secrets of what is arguably the most well-known symbol of the Christian faith: the cross of Christ. In this thrilling exploration, Pitre shows how the suffering and death of Jesus was far more than a tragic Roman execution. Instead, the Passion of Christ was the fulfillment of ancient Jewish prophecies of a wedding, when the God of the universe would wed himself to humankind in an everlasting nuptial covenant."
  • Segment Guests:
    • Dr. Brant Pitre
Professor of Sacred Scripture, Notre Dame Seminary

Brant is the author of the bestselling book "Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist: Unlocking the Secrets of the Last Supper" (2011). Dr. Pitre is an extremely enthusiastic and highly sought-after speaker who lectures regularly across the United States. He has produced dozens of Bible studies on both CD and DVD, in which he explores the biblical roots of the Catholic faith. He has also appeared on a number of Catholic radio and television shows, such as Catholic Answers Live and EWTN.

Epic Food Fight: A Bite-Sized History of Salvation

  • Description: Fr. Leo blends profound truths with humor and wit in a way that appeals to a wide cross-section of Catholics. In this new book, Fr. Leo goes beyond an explanation of how eating together builds stronger families to probe more deeply into the theological aspects of food. Following the example of Jesus Christ, whose miracles and teachings often involved food, Fr. Leo explains salvation history by what he calls a “theology of food —there is a godly logic to every bite we take. He shows how the devil seeks to poison God s children from within, getting them to “digest his lies by taking what is harmful and making it look beautiful and edible. This cosmic struggle between good and evil can be seen as an “eternal food fight between God and the devil.
  • Segment Guests:
    • Fr. Leo Patalinghug
Host and Founder, Grace Before Meals

Father Leo Patalinghug is a Roman Catholic priest who holds a pontifical theological degree in Mariology (the study of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the life of Christ). He is also an international TV show host, radio host, and founder of the international movement Grace Before Meals, which provides a pastoral theology of the Eucharist to strengthen the communion of the family (the Domestic Church) through the blessing of the meal. He is a popular author, internationally sought-out speaker, and an effective preacher of the New Evangelization to diverse audiences in the modern world.
